Sydney Bristow is an international spy recruited out of college, trained for espionage and self-defense.
Sydney Bristow is a young, athletic, college graduate who was recruited her freshman year as a secret agent for SD-6, a top-secret branch of the CIA. After a few years – after Sydney confides her lifestyle to her boyfriend, the evil head of SD-6 – Arvin Sloan, has him killed. Sydney learns that SD-6 is part of a rogue international agency called the Alliance of 12, out to rule the world. She becomes a double agent, working with the real CIA to bring down SD-6 with the assistance of her handler, Michael Vaughn, and her estranged father Jack Bristow – also a double agent. Along the way, Sydney fights various rival agents, rival terrorist groups, and traitors all the while keeping her cloak-and-dagger lifestyle a secret from her friends. (Season 1)
In general I avoid television shows such as "C.S.I." and "Alias" for the simple reason that I find them to be amateurish and, at times, rather silly. Look at the old CBS show "Diagnosis Murder": every week in small-town USA there's a murder that some apparently jobless doctor solves, the police force ALWAYS doubting his methods, even after he's solved more cases than your average NYC police force.

There is a reason that most critics seem to always mention when the director of a film used to direct television shows. In the film world it seems to be some sort of negative light – if you're responsible for directing anything on TV, you're a hack. I remember when "Behind Enemy Lines" came out and the critics all mentioned that its director used to make television commercials, and therefore he was not a real director.

In some ways I do agree after seeing shows such as "Alias" because the direction is almost always very poor. It's refreshing to see Quentin Tarantino helming the rare episode and breathing some life into the material.

My own bias pushed aside, I have to admit that the acting in "Alias" is above-average… Jennifer Garner is quite good as Sydney, the recruited top secret spy of a shady government organization; and it's nice to see Victor Garbor (from "Titanic" and "Legally Blonde") having some fun in his role.

Overall I still am not a fan of "Alias" or any television dramas in particular, but sometimes when it's on late at night I'll find myself watching it. For me, that says a lot, and probably means this show is a helluva lot better than most of the other stuff that's on out there that I don't watch at all, even when I'm bored.
Give or take, Garner was 30 years old when Alias hit the big screen and there was no turning back for her.

Have heard so many different stories about how she was "discovered" in Tinseltown that I do not know which to believe.

What I do know is that, for a period of time, JG was the new "it girl", she could do no wrong, and audiences simply could not get enough of her.

Alias, which ran for 5 years, was simply an OK premise taken to heights of high-camp based solely on the star power of Garner.

She was hot, she could act, she could do stunts, she had great reaction shots, and she made it all seem so easy. Even her film roles in his period are worth a look (which is another section of the IMDb entirely).

Recommended for teenage boys of all ages.
